News from our Mission partners in July

We have updates from Hope for Justice, the Gelsthorpes (Japan) and the Langham partnership on "OUR WORK IN THE WORLD",  and from High Hopes in "OUR WORK IN TONBRIDGE". Do look!

From Sue Chalkley Chair of Kondoa Companionship Group, Rochester Diocese for July:

Dear friends of Kondoa,

Bishop Given has now started his confirmation rounds, which he anticipates will take four months to complete.  This past weekend, he has been in the Mpendo Deanery.  In Maziwa parish (linked with Chevening Parish), he confirmed a 90 year old man, his seven wives and their children.  The Bishop takes a very practical view about welcoming men with many wives to faith in Christ – they should not take any more wives and others in the family, as Christians, will in future have monogamous marriages.

Please continue to remember Rev Ezereda, the Maziwa Pastor, in your prayers.  She works so hard and is leading many people to faith, but she is also still grieving the sudden death of her husband in March.  You may remember the great difficulty the Bishop had in getting to Rev Ezereda to collect her husband’s body during the floods.

The Bishop has also passed on this news:

‘I have started my Pastoral visitation since Thursday up to Monday visited Mpendo Dinar. I confirmed 487 people in seven parishes (Trying to bring the diocese together after three months of hiding for Covid19),  just returned midnight!

Our Bible College students will be graduating on 19 July they returned to their studies since June 1, 2020!  They are finishing and they will be going to the ministry in August and we hope to have new intake in August 15. There is a need to share with those friends who have supporting our Bible College so that we can produce well formed spiritual and equipped ministers in the church. These are godly people who will transform our diocese!’

Covid-19 update

The Tanzanian President has lifted the Covid-19 restrictions and life is now returning to normal.   The message is that the country is free of the virus and this is reassuring many people who had been scared and confused.  But, this is a very worrying situation as no data about the virus has been released for two months now and there is a General Election this October.

Can we please pray for the President and the government to have the compassion, wisdom and courage to deal with this virus the best way and to protect their people?

The Kondoa “Joseph” Appeal

(June to November 2020)

Thank you so much for all those who have given recently to Kondoa – your support has been hugely appreciated by the Bishop and his team!!
Yet the need in Kondoa is so very great – during the COVID-19 outbreak they have lost virtually all their income – they are for the moment totally reliant on donations.
On top of this the rains have been sporadic and there have been several locust clouds eating the maize…
We have been in contact with the Bishop and he has a plan over the next 6 months….

Across the Kondoa Diocese the situation is OK in the North and East with good crops BUT no crops in the West and South (due both to lack of rain and the locust/insect swarms eating the plants)
The Bishop therefore is planning to follow “Joseph in Egypt” (Genesis 40 & 42)
He plans to buy maize in the North & East of the Diocese – over the next 3-4 months – store it in Kondoa and then distribute it to those who have none in the South and West towards the end of the year
By providing food for the South and West towards yearend – this will enable people to have something to eat and to prepare their fields for next year
(Rather than have to work for someone else for their food and have nothing for next year!)

If you are able to provide support, please send any donations to the Parish’s Kondoa fund.  You can either send a cheque made payable to Tonbridge Parish Church, or transfer money on-line to Account Number 00253197, Sort Code 30-98-63 - clearly marked “Kondoa” and your name.  If you are a taxpayer and we can claim Gift Aid, please also email treasurer@tonbridgeoparishchurch.org.uk
