wedding

We are delighted that you're thinking of getting married in our Parish!

Initial enquiries can be made to our Parish & Finance Administrator; 01732 770962 x24 or Church Office

The types of service that we hold:

A Service of Marriage.
An authorised service for the marrying of couples, who have never been married before (who have not been through any type of legal marriage service).

A Service of Prayer & Dedication
A simple service designed for couples who have had a Civil Marriage Ceremony in the UK or abroad, and want to have a church service afterwards.

A Service of Thanksgiving of a Marriage
This is a service for those who wish to renew their marriage vows.

Baptism

We are glad that you are thinking spiritually about these things for yourself or your child.

If you've recently had or adopted a baby, congratulations! The Church of England has two opportunities to bring the joy of new life to God and the church.

First, you can bring the baby to church for a Service of Thanksgiving where we can give thanks for his or her arrival and pray for you as a family together. Many families find that’s just that kind of ‘marker’ they're looking for, and it can also involve any family or friends who will support you and your child as he or she grows too.

Secondly, there is a Service of Baptism (which some people call ‘Christening’) in which you make promises for yourselves and your child about your own Christian commitment, into which you will raise your child. That's a serious option and the promises made need careful thought and preparation.

Sometimes people who were not baptised as infants come to faith in Jesus as older children or adults and we are also delighted to celebrate their faith through a Service of Baptism.

If you are interested in either service, the first thing to do is join the church family at one of our services and talk to a member of the clergy afterwards.

Funeral

We are sorry for your bereavement and will do all we can to support and help.  If you would simply like to talk to someone at this stage, please contact the Church Office to arrange this.

If you are considering a funeral, your first point of contact should be through a Funeral Director, who will help you with all the necessary paperwork, give you on advice on the type of service available to you and enquire about a Minister on your behalf.  be able to give you advice on the type of Funerals available to you, and book the Minister on your behalf.

If you decide to have a church service, your funeral director will pass your details to the Church Office who will liaise with the Funeral Director to organise the funeral.

Some frequently asked questions:

Can a funeral service be held in any of your four buildings?
Yes, all four buildings in our parish are licensed to hold funeral services.

Can we hold a burial in your churchyard?
No, our churchyard is not open for the burial of coffins, but we can conduct interment of ashes.

Can we scatter ashes in your churchyard?
No, I am afraid that this is no longer permitted.

What should I expect when I visit a service?

A warm welcome!  A typical service will have hymns and / or songs, prayers, and a sermon from a Bible passage linked to our current sermon series. There is opportunity for private prayer, or prayer with one of our prayer ministry team at the end. Refreshments are served after the services.

What is there for children and young people?

We have a fantastic programme for children and young people (0-14s) as part of our 10.30am congregation at St Peter & St Paul. Children stay with their parents at the start of the service, before going to their own activities. Our older teens (Year 10-13) meet after the 5pm service at St Philip.

For more information please see Children, Youth and Families page

How long will the service take?

Our services typically last about 60-75 minutes.
