Children & online safety

Online safety is a real concern with the Ofcom Regulator stating that 8-17year olds spend between 2-5 hours online each day. Nearly every child over 12years has a mobile phone & most of them watch videos on platforms such as YouTube or Tik Tok and have used artificial intelligence tools such as ChatGPT or Snapchat's MyAI. The Children's Commissioner said that half of the 13year age olds her team surveyed reported seeing hardcore, misogynistic, pornographic material on social media. The new Online Safety Act will not come into force until 2025.

Phone networks block some explicit websites until the user is over 18years. (Apple has Screen Time & Google has Family Link).

internetmatters.org is a safety organisation set up by various U.K. Companies (including EE; BT; What's App; Google; Apple; YouTube; Instagram; Tik Tok and others) where you can access parental control guides.
